Why older adults become passive without a daily routine
Wanneer een oudere weinig structuur in de dag heeft, kan het gebeuren dat iemand steeds passiever wordt. Activiteiten verdwijnen langzaam en de dagen lijken steeds meer op elkaar.
This often has less to do with unwillingness than with circumstances.
Minder prikkels in de dag
When someone has fewer social contacts or goes out less, there are also fewer incentives to do something.
Daardoor kan het gebeuren dat iemand:
- stays seated more often
- minder initiatief neemt
- feels tired more quickly
Passivity can become a habit
When a day contains few activities, passivity can slowly become a habit. The longer this lasts, the harder it sometimes becomes to pick something up again.
That is precisely why it is important to incorporate small activities into the day.
The difference that small moments make
Soms zijn het juist de kleine momenten die verschil maken:
- a short walk
- drinking coffee together
- een gesprek
- run a small errand
When these moments occur regularly, it can help to regain more rhythm and energy in the week.
