Replacement informal care
Replacement informal care means that part of the care for a parent is temporarily or permanently taken over by someone else. This can help family members when the care becomes increasingly intensive or when it becomes difficult to combine everything with work, family, and other obligations.
- to prevent overload
- werk en zorg beter te combineren
- to keep the relationship with a parent in balance
When informal care falls entirely on one person, it can create a lot of pressure. By organizing support, the care often remains more sustainable for everyone.
You can also find more information about this on our page about home-based informal care support.
Support at home
Support at home can consist of, for example:
- gezelschap en een luisterend oor
- samen wandelen of naar buiten gaan
- practical help with small daily tasks

Combining informal care and support
For many families, a combination of informal care and additional support proves to work best. Children and family remain involved, but at the same time gain some breathing room as a support worker takes over part of the care.
This often creates a better balance: the older person receives attention and support, while informal caregivers can continue providing care longer and with more peace of mind.
