Gezelschapsmaatje voor ouderen

Many elderly people miss daily companionship. When children live further away or social contacts diminish, a day can feel quiet and empty. A companion for the elderly can then be a valuable addition.

Having a cup of coffee together, having a conversation, or simply sitting together can mean a lot. It is not about care, but about personal attention and human contact.

A companion from Gea Thuis visits regularly and offers peace, companionship, and a familiar face.

What does a companion do?

Een gezelschapsmaatje is er vooral voor gezelschap en aandacht. De invulling verschilt per persoon en wordt altijd afgestemd op wat iemand prettig vindt.

A companion can, for example:

  • drinking coffee together
  • to have conversations
  • reminiscing
  • samen televisie kijken
  • play a game
  • take a short walk
  • grocery shopping together
  • go somewhere together

Soms is een activiteit fijn, soms is een rustig gesprek al genoeg. Het belangrijkste is dat er tijd en aandacht is.

Why a companion can be important

Many elderly people spend a large part of their day alone. Regular visits can make a big difference.

Een gezelschapsmaatje kan bijdragen aan:

  • more social contacts
  • minder gevoelens van eenzaamheid
  • meer plezier en afwisseling in de week
  • een fijne dagstructuur
  • a familiar face to talk to

It is precisely that personal contact that often makes the difference.

A familiar face at home

At Gea Thuis, we believe it is important that there is a good connection between the elderly person and the support worker. That is why we work with a fixed companion or support worker as much as possible.

In this way, a bond of trust is created, and the visit feels pleasant and familiar every time.

Moreover, our supporters are from the local region. That makes it easier to do something together in the neighborhood.

Who is a companion suitable for?

A companion can be valuable for older adults who:

  • sometimes feel lonely
  • behoefte hebben aan een gesprek of gezelschap
  • would like to do something together
  • weinig sociale contacten in de buurt hebben
  • wishing for some extra support in daily life

It can also be pleasant for informal caregivers when someone comes by regularly for company.

Meeting a companion

If you are interested, we always start with a relaxed introductory meeting. We discuss your wishes and see which support worker suits you best.

Afterwards, the support worker can come by to get acquainted. This way, you can meet each other and see if there is a good connection.
